50 years May 20, 1970 In the news
Republican candidate for U.S. Congress, Ben Brown, said the incumbent congressmen is more of a Democrat than a Montanan regarding his approach toward Congress. He said this while addressing the Richland County Republican Women’s Club. Brown also said the current person in office had weakened his effectiveness in Washington D.C. for following a party line. Before running for congress, Brown worked in Congress as an assistant to Rep. James Battin as well as a congressional representative of President Richard Nixon.
The Sidney Junior High track team defeated Plentywood at the track meet. The Sidney seventh grade team won 128–44, eighth graders won 113–37 and the ninth graders won 145–18. Plentywood had some kids on the track team in band during the meet, so the Wildcats were undermanned during the event.
May 21, 1995 In the news
The Yellowstone School District, East Fairview, approved a tuition proposal for kids in North Dakota to be able to attend Fairview High School. The Montana school would bill East Fairview for the cost of the education for the students coming from North Dakota. Once East Fairview gets the money from North Dakota, the Fairview school district will ultimately be paid.
Fairview got a few first-place showings at the Glasgow track meet. Doug Cayko took first in discus with 143-9. Erica Wheeler took the top spot in pole vault by clearing 8-0. Mike Sharbono placed second in the 300-meter and second in the pole vault by clearing 13-0.
May 23, 2010 In the news
Sidney’s Jordan Mayer received a Circle of Success Grant of $1,000 to help with some of the cost of his post-secondary education. It was awarded by the Nonprofit Student Assistance Foundation. Mayer graduated from Sidney High School in 2007.
The Fairview girls golf team placed in the top three during the state golf meet for the second year in a row. The Warriors placed third the previous year and once again placed third this year with a score of 653.
