The way you view your dad will have a profound impact on how much you trust dad. How you view or understand God, will have a profound impact on how much you trust Him.

Dads, you play a crucial role in the spiritual development of your children.  In the book of Deuteronomy 6:4-9, fathers are urged to impress upon their children the commands and teachings of God. This Scripture teaches that fathers need to be making the most of every opportunity we have with our children to teach and model for them the things of God.

Dads, be assured that your children are watching and listening to your every action and word.

They know what is important to you and what is not important to you by watching and listening to you.

Dads, you are one of the most powerful forces in this world. Are you teaching the truth to your children in the context of a loving, caring relationship?

The best example we can follow as dads is found in our heavenly Father.

I John 4:8 tells us that God is love. What is a natural expression of love?  Love will make sacrifices for others.

This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. I John 4:9

Another expression of love is discipline. “Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in His holiness.” Hebrews 12:10

God desires to be in fellowship with you. Fellowship means more than eating a meal and talking about the latest sports and weather. God wants to share His life with you and He wants you to share your life with Him.

Time to evaluate yourselves Dads. Do you love your children? What sacrifices are you making for them?  How well are you disciplining them?  How well are you teaching them about God and the things of God? Are you enjoying times of fellowship with your children? What kind of relationship do you have with your children?  How would your children respond to these questions?

Regardless of how your father has treated you or is treating you, you are commanded to honor father.  How will you honor your father today?

It will be next to impossible to honor your earthly father if you are not first honoring your heavenly Father. You cannot honor God the Father when you are not living in a relationship with Him.

If you want to honor your earthly father, you need to begin by honoring your heavenly Father.  You bring honor to God by submitting your life to His authority. As you do this, He will give you the grace and mercy needed to honor your father regardless of how he has treated you or how he is treating you.

How will you honor your Father today?
