We all have within our grasp something wonderful, exciting and even a bit uncertain.

It is a new year with new opportunities and challenges, and it almost upon us. Are we up to it?

What if our traditional New Year resolutions focused on our spiritual goals, first and foremost?

So, here it is, a New Year on the horizon, all polished and shiny and beautiful! God has given us a brand-new year and He has empowered us to make it the best, ever!

So, how do we do that? Allow me to make three suggestions. First, let us resolve to give the new year, in every way, to the Lord!

Let us first give ourselves to the Lord, putting Him first (Mt. 6:33). It would also require us to fall in love with Him all over again (Ps. 31:23).

Second, let us resolve to give our desire to evangelize the world to the Lord! Each of us is able and we are expected to share the Gospel message, making disciples of the nations (Matt. 28:19-20). So then, we are to preach it (2 Tim. 4:1-5), to teach it (Hos. 4:6; Matt. 28:19b), and to exemplify it by the lives we live (Phil. 3: 17; 1 Tim. 1:16).

Jesus said, “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest” (Jn. 4:35). We can share Jesus with others (Mt. 3:17), so let us resolve to seize those opportunities!

Third, let us resolve to give our life changes to the Lord and, therefore, our spiritual changes for the better.

Change can be both frightening and exciting, as well as challenging. Change makes us color outside the lines and leave our comfort zones. Change forces us to rethink, reassess, and reevaluate.

Therefore, let us resolve to embrace how we might change to become more faithful as the disciples of the Lord.

Jesus was and is the champion of change, so let us hand ourselves over to Him, allowing Him to mold and shape us as He chooses best (Jn. 13:34). 2019 will be filled with change, so let us embrace it and give it to the Lord. Jesus is in charge and He is always good!

We will be given a brand-new year! There is nothing that cannot be done in 2019, nothing that is too big or too high or too far!

Why? Because 2019 is a gift from God, endowed with His strength, power and authority! So, what do we do? We give it all to Him! We must look deep inside ourselves, individually!

We also must look forward, for what we have been does not matter, but what can and will become does!

What a gift! What an opportunity! What a thrill! A bright and shiny new year! It all begins with you and me, giving it all to the Lord!
