ANTICIPATION RISING.  We try to stay calm with an eye toward the weekend, the deer firearms opener and the approaching full moon, but the excitement is hard to overcome. In hopes of doing so, we focus on the important dates, some solidifying safety tips about the current state of ice in the region and a cool promotion for habitat in our Outdoors Roundup.

OUTDOORS ROUNDUP:

FULL CALENDAR.  A perennial resource, the “Best Times To Hunt” deer hunting calendar lays it out in easy-to-read days with peak times based on moon position and phase for your specific zip code.  Note Tuesday’s full moon and plan your hunts accordingly, including those this opening weekend!

THIN ICE.  The NDG&F Dept. reminds hunters and anglers that newly-formed ice is not strong enough to support people at this time, and in many cases is quite sketchy.  While animals like deer and pheasants can utilize it, it is unlikely a person can utilize it safely in most areas.

FUEL UP.  A cool partnership between Casey’s General Stores and Pheasants Forever is underway.  For each bottle of Mountain Dew and Pepsi sold during the promotion, Casey’s will make a donation to PF and its habitat mission.
