A fatal crash occurred in McKenzie County late Wednesday night when a 2014 Ford Raptor traveling east in a west bound lane on ND23 from the Watford City area crested a hill and hit an International Semi head on. The crash occurred at 10:56 p.m., nine miles east of Watford City.
The driver of the Raptor, Steven Candelaria, age 29, from Los Alamos, New Mexico, was called in for reckless driving. When the two vehicles hit, the Ford overturned and came to rest on its wheels on the south shoulder of the highway, according to information from North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP). The fatality victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
The semi involved in the crash ran off the north shoulder and jack knifed. The driver was injured and transported to McKenzie County Hospital.
After the crash, a semi hauling crude came over the hill and sustained damage from crash debris scattered on the highway.
The crash remains under investigation by NDHP.
