On Friday April 26th, 2019 the Montana Special Olympics Torch made its way through Richland County. Guardians of this year’s flame included Chris Waters, John Rogers, Veronica Melby, Hannah Whiteman, Jill Hill, Maggie Gist, Alex Rosales, Anil Kara, Nate Wartmen, and Cole Slemo. The Guardians each participated in a leg of the run from Fairview to Glendive.
Other participants included members of ROI of SIdney and students of Brorson School. These included Dallas Haugen, Ricky Tobiason, Megan Yasko, Rita Wick, Nikki Hall, Shelly Schaubel, Anna Nistler, Autry Sanders, John Scheger, Jon Foster, Vicki Orozco, Mike Schwarts, Destiny Bearcomesout, and Caitlyn Pope of ROI and Briar Hanson, Cayla Hanson, Clair Steinbeisser, Liam Steinbeisser, Chloe Nelson, Wyatt Holmguist, Titus Edinger of Brorson School with their teachers Alisha Taylor and Kelsi Haggard.
Gabe Zieler, one of the organizers of this year’s torch run, said the average amount raised each year is between $2,000 and $5,000. Donations can be made by sponsoring a runner or online at www.specialolympicsmontana.com.
