The Savage Board of Trustees discussed options regarding future school-designated elections at their school board meeting on Monday.
District Clerk Michelle Miller said the last election held, the school spent $1,000 overall on items like advertising and on a poll machine that cost $150 to rent.
“No one uses the machine, but we have to have it,” Miller said.
Miller said Savage School was the only school district in the county to still have a poll machine, others having gone to mailings.
“Ballots can’t be forwarded,” Trustee Linda Nelson said. “And you still have to pay postage if you use the mail for elections.”
In other news, Superintendent Martha Potter reported that new water pipes would be installed at the school beginning May 30.
The Board of Trustees recognized the efforts of History teacher Staci Slack for organizing a cemetery cleanup with students saying it instilled in them a sense of civic responsibility.
With a generous $45,000 donation from graduate Doug Kelly, the gym floor will get a resanding and repainting beginning in June with a completion date before school resumes.
Finally, upgrades were approved at a cost of $28,660 for cement projects for the rental units, superintendent house, and bus barn using flex, rental and reserve funds. Driveways, walkways, and sidewalks will be cemented by Mando’s Concrete.
