Delmer G McNary, age 80, was called home on Thursday, July 19, 2019 as the result of a chronic illness.
Del was born on September 12, 1938 to Clarence “Lee” McNary and Beatrice “Bea” Berry in Williston, North Dakota. Del had 5 brothers and sisters and was raised on the family farm near Buford. He developed a great passion for hunting and to a much lesser degree, fishing. Del became an excellent fiddle and accordian player on the farm and honed his impressive carpentry skills there. Del attended area schools and graduated from Fairview High School in Fairview, Montana. He played all sports but loved baseball the most. Del briefly attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Mt. before an acute illness cut his educational plans short.
In 1958, Del married Nancy Noteboom at Zion Lutheran in Fairview, Mt. and together they had three children, Brian, Ann Marie, and Brett. Del attended Brown Broadcasting School in Minneapolis and returned to work in local television and radio studios in Williston, Sidney, and later on in Butte, Mt. In 1969, Del moved the family to Butte. He continued to work in radio but began transitioning into all lines of insurance, eventually becoming the owner of Montana Central Insurance Agency. After arriving in Butte, Del became quite an accomplished skier and he loved to golf. Del also loved to fly and obtained his pilot’s license in Butte.
Del picked the family up and moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. In 1980, he was divorced. He would move to Hailey, Idaho where he married Betsey Lenon. Del continued to thrive in the insurance business and he went wherever there was opportunity. Del and Betsey made homes in Idaho Falls, Jerome, and Twin Falls. Del loved his granchildren, Alexia and Sarah Lenon, Russ and Kristen Kirkman. He was active in the Elks Club, the Old Time Fiddlers, and he played in many venues throughout southern Idaho. Del was a Christian and attended church regularly.
