The Class 2C Basketball Tournament began this week in Sidney, and several schools are fighting to determine who will be this year's Champion.Â
The Culbertson boys basketball team started to week of games on Monday, Feb. 13 against the Mondak Thunder. Culbertson got off to a hot start, gaining a nine point lead in the first quarter, leaving the scoreboard 14-5. The Thunder fought back hard, keeping it close for the entire game, but the hot start was too much and Culbertson came out victorious; 49-35.
Bainville and Savage boys met each other on the court in Game 2 of the Tournament Tuesday, Feb. 14. Another close game, neither team was looking to give the other an advantage. The teams battled through the first quarter, ending it in a 7-7 tie. In the second quarter, Bainville got the run they needed, outscoring Savage 10-4 in the period. Savage tried for a comeback in the second half, but Bainville held them off, winning 52-41.Â
The girls teams have put up some great battles on the court as well.Â
On Monday night, Fairview girls faced off against Brockton, looking to start the tournament out strong. They did exactly that, leading at halftime 25-10. The Warriors slowed a bit after halftime, but continued their dominant play throughout the game. With a great game from Macy Tjelde (#24), who scored 22 points, Fairview ended victorious with a final score of 51-25.

The Tournament advanced to Game 7 and 8 on Thursday night, Feb. 16, and these games determined who would play in the Championship Game.Â
Game 7 featured the Plentywood girls coming off of a rest game after earning a bye game to start the tournament. They faced off against Bainville. Plentywood's bye game seemed to give them some advantage, having rest before they began tournament play. Plentywood started on a run and never looked back, winning the game 50-23 and advancing to Game 11 - to play for the Championship.
Game 8 pinned two familiar school against each other - Fairview and Culbertson. Culbertson aslo came off of a bye, and the intensity from fans cheering for both teams filled the gym. Both teams came off opening tip with lots of energy, fighting to establish themselves. After a close first quarter, Culbertson was up 14-8. Fairview went on a cold spell in the second quarter, only scoring a total of two points, giving the Warriors too big of a deficit to overcome. The Culbertson Cowgirls won the game 49-22, and will advance to the Championship game.
